Changing terms
A BoyChat poster pointed out that variations on the "predator" term is becoming more popular at the expense of "pedophile".

I, for one, consider the shift from "pedophile" to "predator" to be a step in the right direction. Unlike "pedophile", "predator" denotes an act instead of a state of mind: if you don't predate, you're not a predator, and it's a conscious choice whether to predate or not, so it's fair to hold you responsible for being one. "Predator" doesn't cover paedophiles who don't predate, while it also covers non-paedophiles who do. When muggles talk about "pedophiles", they almost invariably refer to people who have had sex with someone underage. That's not what defines a paedophile, so if they want to call such people predators instead, at least they're making up their own term instead of abusing an existing one.

Of course, "predator" is a ridiculous power word which makes people think of wild animals when they in most cases really should be thinking of two people who loved each other when the law says it's inappropriate. But at least you can choose not to be one, whereas we as "pedophiles" can not choose to stop having the attraction.
